The author responds to an evolutionist who claims "all" science supports evolution.
Barbara Forrest’s claim in The Alexandria Town Talk that “all current scientific evidence supports evolution” is so blatantly droll that I will dust off my keyboard and respond in kind: All current scientific evidence supports intelligent design. Of course, I’m fudging a bit. Most of the evidence available can apply to both evolution and intelligent design. Any fact offered by an evolutionist as proof of his position will neatly fit into the intelligent design paradigm as well. Scientifically, however, there are certain rules of application that make “proofs” something hard to come by. Her statement, and my challenging retort, simply cannot withstand that sort of “scientific” scrutiny when discussing the origins of life.
One thing is true : Evolution is a fact. Things do evolve over time. The problem comes when one tries to apply the fact of evolution as an explanation to the existence of life itself; then evolution becomes a theory, and not a very good one. The fact of evolution does not prove that life evolved completely on its own accord. Evolution explains how some slight changes within a species occur, but there is no proof that it is responsible for the species being here in the first place. Those who support intelligent design as the theory of life’s existence on our planet are not trying to suggest that evolution does not exist: Just that it is inadequate as a theory of the origins of life and the various species.
To obliterate Mrs. Forrest’s postulation concerning “all” evidence supporting evolution, I only need to offer one proof otherwise. I’ll offer two, and I’ll use what she would consider her strong points. First, the fossil record does not support evolution as a theory of origins, no matter how many times you hear evolutionists say it. The fossil record suggests that most of the major species we see today appear suddenly and as we currently know them. Some spin can be made by evolutionists that slight changes have been made over time, but the logic of the fossil record suggests that intelligent design is a better theory. The beggarly, scant evidence offered by evolutionists as transitional forms between major species is speculative. In other words, it is thought that reptiles became mammals because it is logically the closest thing available in the fossil record to which scientist can assign evolution’s process. However, there is no specific, transitional bridge between major species. Therefore, the fossil record does not support the theory of evolution as the origin of life or the major species.
Secondly, DNA is often used to link monkeys to humans and other such comparisons. DNA is actually proof against the idea of “natural selection.” The idea of natural selection is based upon the logic that species with traits that make it most adaptable to its environment thrive, surviving nature’s selective process. This is the basis of the “Survival of the Fittest” theory of evolution. Selective breeding with dogs, for instance, produces better dogs. The same applies with flowers, fruits, and vegetables. The fact is, however, that nobody selectively breeds dogs to produce a cat. With the vast technology we possess, we still do not have the ability to produce thriving species, just variations within a species. Natural selection cannot reach beyond its DNA limits. The DNA of a turtle prevents it from becoming a rodent. This fact supports intelligent design, not evolution.
To an evolutionist, the fact that we exist is proof enough that evolution explains the origins of the species. Since they do not believe in God, or any Intelligent Designer, the only possible explanation is the one they have been tirelessly trying to prove for centuries: It all just happened by chance. Despite their vast discoveries and technologies, they still offer us nothing scientific to support their theory that life as we know it evolved from nothing.
