While America's corporatist leaders take us down the road of economic fascism and empire, this article asks where is any regard for our liberties?

According to past Presidential candidate Harry Browne, the desire to be free is as basic to human nature as is the desire to live. Yet, despite the tragic events since the morning of September 11, 2001, most Americans continue to allow Uncle Sam to behave as Master Terrorist throughout the world. And too many Americans have shown their stubbornness by keeping their heads in the sand concerning Uncle Sam's warmongering.

Uncle Sam installs dictators, drug lords, kings and other despots as leaders in other peoples' countries in the quiet name of oil and the quieter name of CIA drugs. This despite the fact that America's freedom was fought in the cause that monarchy is an immoral government unfit for any human being for any reason, whether it be drugs, tobacco, whale oil, petroleum, or whatever. America's Founding Fathers believed that they were righteous in 1776 to attack their government and its troops in order to be free of monarchy. But today's Americans do not allow others to throw off the tyranny of monarchy and dictatorship, as so many Africans, Arabs, and Central Americans know too well. Rather, in direct contradiction to everything they believe, Americans put the shackles of monarchy on their world neighbors by complicit collusion with Uncle Sam's corporatist foreign policy.

Today's Americans are the Nazis that Hitler's propaganda minister Goebbels was hoping for and nearly got -- unquestioning, angry, and blindly patriotic to the government. Uncle Sam routinely ignores the international court but expects others to submit to its decisions. Iraqis have been bombed monthly nonstop since Desert Storm (it is peculiar how Anglo-American bombs always seem to fall on the internal enemies of Saddam's sons, who rule in his name). And Afghans were and are being bombed without any proof that they did anything other than to stop growing opium for CIA. But very few people in America are shedding a tear for either of them.

Homeland security is also threatened by the machinations of government. Government and its corporate cronies have figured out how to rewrite - and keep on rewriting - the Constitution's Bill of Rights. America's court system is a sham, the Bill of Rights has been suspended. The government has said it can lock up anyone indefinitely without showing public proof and has done just that. To keep out of jail in the New Amerika, you must tow the line. Just ask the G.I. Joe doll!

Hampered by editocracy and the culture of lying that Paul H. Weaver revealed in his 1992 book, News and the Culture of Lying, their news media amounts to little more than government and corporate-manufactured propaganda. Hiding behind the rhetoric of patriotism and free enterprise, most of them instead practice Nazi-styled corporatism.

Afghanistan, a country whose Puritan movement called the Taliban had successfully stopped the growing of CIA opium, was slowly working its way out of grass-eating poverty. But thanks to the corporate media, after 9/11 they became the focal point for American anger and stupidity, much to the joy of CIA who badly wanted Afghan heroin again. Corporate media worked to the bidding of Uncle Sam in creating fictional enemies out of personalities who would otherwise be heroes such as 'usaamah bin Ladin -- Arabia's Tom Paine, Mullah 'umar -- Afghanistan's Oliver Cromwell, and, in a desperate reach for straws, John Walker Lindh -- the American-born security guard employed by the Afghan government. Contrast this with the way the media treat the Uncle Sam-installed drug lord and dictator Hamid Karzai, formerly from the Soviet Union and now in post-Taliban Afghanistan. The media refer to him as "President", thereby whitewashing the fact that he is a dictator. The same is evident with "President" Musharraf of Pakistan, another U.S.-installed dictator.

Corporate and federal corruption in the New Amerika is rampant, running at the level of Pakistani politics. Working too often in collusion with politicians, bureaucrats and judges, corporate executives usurp the law and attempt to avoid opprobrium for their actions. The Enron Scandal is the tip of an iceberg of corporate mischief. Worse, they creatively invent new ways to fleece the pockets of American tax victims through various corporate welfare programs. Or, as in the case of former President Jimmy Carter's peanut farming operation, they simply outlaw the competition from doing the same.

Congress has seen its House of Representatives pass the largest military spending authorization since the presidential terms of "Rum" Reagan - (a rum to help forget). With Demopublicans in political office, it is inevitable that government and its corporations grow bigger and everyone's liberties get smaller.

America's farm policies add up to corporate welfare for "artificial persons" (i.e. corporations) in the farming business, at the expense of family farmers and the working and middle classes. These "artificial persons" created by government fiat are really mini-Soviet Unions that have nothing to do with free enterprise, despite their assertions to the contrary. As a result, H. Ross Perot types direct multinational corporations that fleece the public's pockets through government military contracts and other government schemes. Hidden behind a corporatist facade of free enterprise propaganda is the fact that in a free market, there are no corporations. In a manner similar to the disillusioned young boy in the novel Catcher in the Rye, more and more free market advocates are figuring out that corporations are government creations.

Americans must stop their silence about the erosion of their hard-won liberties if they hope to ever regain them. Americans must also root out the corruption and warmongering in the nation's capitol, rid the government of wasteful and abusive spending, stop CIA drug-running (especially heroin out of Afghanistan), and keep CIA drugs out of their neighborhoods and schools. By doing so, they would significantly reduce crime and reduce their prisons' inmate populations by nearly 50%. The only people who are going to save America from a government out of control are the voters. If our world is going to have an America based on liberty, voters are going to have to remember where they came from, step out of the house and into the voting booth, and give failing grades to the Demopublican politicians by voting Libertarian or Green. But even that is not enough.

Americans must make time from their hectic schedules to rein in the criminals in Washington, D.C. who promote global state terrorism. Democracy will not only never take root in third world countries, but it will become extinct on our planet if American citizens do no more than vote for a politician every few years. They must make time to participate in the functioning of government, especially at the local level. How did Americans outlaw alcohol just 80 years ago? Middle class American women had the time to do that before the Great Depression put them to work. Today, most working and middle class women are working a full-time job and if married and/or with children, are working a second full-time job as homemakers. There is no time for the average woman or man to participate in government. Most American families see both adults working full-time while only 3 paychecks from bankruptcy. It is not by choice that Americans live a hectic lifestyle, but how they choose to spend their leisure time is within their control. Leisure time can be spent organizing group activities that make a difference.

Lastly, America cannot have a corporatist state and keep her civil liberties. It is impossible - one cannot fool the laws of social economics. Every time Uncle Sam drops a bomb on Afghanistan or Iraq, he drops a bomb on American liberty and liberty in the rest of the world. In order to save America's liberty, Americans must resolve that they will no longer allow Uncle Sam to commit his own vast state terrorism upon innocent people in third world countries. They must vote the criminals out of office.

And the British must resolve to do the same with British warmongers. Our futures depend on it.
