(The following LTE was published in the Chronicle-Telegram in 2008)
As a veteran, I hold President Bush and his criminal regime fully responsible for whay they have done to our troops (many are coming home with post-traumatic stress disorder), as well as many Afghan and Iraqi deaths.
Most of the Afghan and Iraqi dead have been non-defenders, including many thousands of innocent women and children. Sane U.S. military leaders know that when the Geneve Conventions are ignored, individual soldiers are traumatized. I thought America was supposed to be different.
Remember, we were lied into these wars. Afghanistan and Iraq were never a threat to us, and had done nothing wrong to us.
When the generals (Batiste, Powell, Odom, and Zinni) start talking like anti-war Republican U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, you know something is up. Bush is breaking the military and abusing the troops horribly. Can you imagine what it must be like to have to do four or five tours in an invasion and occupation or to be extended for 12 more months of invading and occupying when you were all psyched up to come home? The war hawks won't even pay for their wars, and are putting it all on the national tab to picked up by our kids and grandkids!
