An Amazing Product is Probably Sitting on Your Kitchen Shelf:
Amazing Uses of Baking Soda
By Idelle Kursman
Most of us use baking soda for baking. Some of us may place a box in our refrigerators to absorb food odors. Many household cleaners contain baking soda to increase their products cleaning performance. I remember a professor in college telling the class that before toothpaste was invented, everyone used to brush their teeth with baking soda.
But there are so many more uses of baking soda than those just mentioned above. I will list just a few of its many uses.
1.) Clean Produce—To make sure your fruits and vegetables are free of bacteria, pour a little baking soda on them when washing.
2.) Clean Dishwasher—Pour a little baking soda around the bottom of your dishwasher and run a cycle with hot water to give it a fresh scent.
3.) Homemade Facial Exfoliant—Use one tablespoon of baking soda and a little water to remove built up dry skin cells, leaving your face cleaner and healthier.
4.) Use as Antacid—Because it is alkaline, one teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water will relieve heartburn.
5.) Treat Insect Bites—Mix baking soda and water until it becomes a paste and apply to mosquito bites to relieve itchy skin.
6.) Keep Flowers Alive longer—Sprinkle a teaspoon of baking soda in the flowers’ water so they last a little longer.
7.) Prevent Weeds— Sprinkling baking soda in the cracks of sidewalks and driveways will prevent weeds from spreading.
When I leave work today and go shopping, guess what I’m going to buy? I’ll try these uses of baking soda myself and see what happens. If anyone else tries them, please let me know the results!
