Commentary

To all out there in the world community I have a small point of view I'd like to share if I may. It coincides with a poem I recently posted to the Den called "Old Pals Across the Border" and I think it's time people, including Canadians, open their eyes to the heavy responsibility the United States has taken on in our world.

As Canadians, like so many other countries of the so called civilized world, consider ourselves peacekeepers but these countries that we send our troops in have to be brought to a peace first. That peace doesn't come cheap and over the years guess who has paid the highest price to do that...the youth of America.

People argue that is what the United Nations are for, diplomacy, and embargoes are far better then shows of military power. Crap, ask the women that were raped, the children that died the whole races that became victims of genocide while the UN debated or said fine we make rules and maybe they'll listen.

People argue that there hasn't been a World War since the League of United Nations was formed. They are using semetics friends there may not have been a World War but... the World is at War. I don't always agree with all of the policies or engagements of the United States but I shiver to even contemplate what this world community of ours would become if the American government decided to listen to the voices of the pacifists of the world and say no foreign intervention no matter the need.

Would the world be a better place if such leaders as Sadam Hussein, Gadaffi, Bin Laden, to name only a few were allowed to go unchecked. Have we forgotten already what men like these in the past have done, can we live with our conscious if we did. I wonder if the politicians who turned blind eyes and ears during Hitler's holocast were alive today what their advise would be.
