NPR has an interesting offer for writers. NPR seeks 300 to 350 word essays on the subject, "This I believe."
Any person may submit an essay.

Essays selected will air on the "This I believe" segment of the morning program.
 
The challenge is to state one's beliefs in a few words, and in a manner to attract NPR to use the material.
NPR guidelines and examples of past broadcasts are available here.

While any writer could feel proud to actually be aired on NPR, every writer could probably benefit from the exercise and by posting their submission here on authorsden. Other writers might become encouraged to do the same.

I don't know if I will submit or not, but I spent some time thinking about what I might write.

Here is what I came up with.

This I believe by Henry Burt Stevens

When I feed the birds I am happy for whoever comes to feed.
I do not wish for more of one specie and less of another specie.
Would I want myself to be denied based on size, color of feathers, length of legs, beaks or wingspread?
I believe all of the wonderful world and the universe are part of me and I of it.
I want to adjust my attitudes that I can enjoy and appreciate it all.
Skinks , snakes and skunks are yet me as are soaring eagles, doe eyed deers and soft purring kittens.
I want to live among my other humans with the same evenness and appreciation. There are many beliefs, answers, opinions about this sphere called world and the universe that cradles it. Especially, I cannot fathom the fascination with mighty war and attendant destruction.
I believe in human ability to observe, but not the ability to provide final answers about this dangerous and unstable universe.
Death? I welcome it because it will be my chance to find out who has been kidding who all these years.
Sorry, I'll not be able to report back my findings.
In the meantime, I work to improve my practice of unconditional love and unconditional forgiveness while all  around me are conditional love and conditional forgiveness in abundance. I keep busy tending the thoughts of this one person I have any influence with.  I wish all the others well and good luck.
