Pastor Appreciation Month in October presents a unique opportunity to recognize your pastor. Yet, they need our affirmation more than once a year.

The following suggestions are 10 ways to give your pastor his due deserve all year long:

1. Compliment His Sermons

A pastor’s greatest fear centers on being inadequate in the pulpit. Your honest complimenthelps erase his anxiety.

2. Do The Unexpected

When he’s not looking for you, be there. When you know your pastor doesn’t expect you to help, do so.

3. Initiate Pastor Appreciation Day

If your church normally fails to have this day, you introduce it. The rewards for your pastor are obvious.

4. Remember Their Birthday and Anniversary

A timely gift and a surprise staff party go a long way in saying a pastor is appreciated. Even when it’s a humorous “Over-the-hill at 40” party, pastors love the attention.

5. Get Behind A Pet Project

You can become so enamored with your own program that you lose sight of what’s importantto your pastor. When you get behind his pet project it tells your pastor you care about his dreams and aspirations -- that you are a valuable asset in achieving his goals.

6. Buy Their Lunch

Fellowship, discussion, and lunch -- what a combination! It may be just what your pastor needs-- especially if it’s at a nice restaurant.

7. Recognize Their Achievements

Be the first to tell your church about your pastors’ new book, that new state convention appointment he received, or that Who’s Who Award. All of us like when someone notices our achievements. So will your pastor.

8. Be A Team Player

Take the I’s and my’s out of referring to your program. Instead, use our and we to talk aboutministry and ministry tasks. Your pastor will notice the difference. He will welcome your subtle efforts at team playing.

9. Organize A Pastor’s Prayer Team

Serve as its coordinator. Pray publicly and privately for your pastor.

10. Always Put Your Pastor First In The Eyes Of The Congregation

The more credit you can give your pastor the more it will come back your way. The congregation will ultimately honor you for honoring him.Pastors are true men of God.
