John Donne once wrote: "No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main. . . . If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less."

This is good advice and not only for Europe. It applies to the United States also. We have all by choice become brothers and sisters with one another because we all call ourselves Americans. We all fight for the same things. We demand the same consideration and why not? We all deserve to be treated like citizens of what is still a great country.

I must say, though I have seen deterioration with my lifetime. I have seen much less, “we” and much more “Me”. I have seen a falling away from what John Kennedy once said, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country. “

I mourn the loss of those young men who fought in World War 1 and World War 2. My heart aches for those who never came home as well as those who came home with physical problems. I feel for the families who mourn them still. What of the families that would never be because of young men who never came back to marry or father children.

What I am trying to say is our forefathers gave up much to make this a great nation. Are we going to let that go for naught? As a child I was proud to be called a citizen of what I thought was the greatest nation ever. The United States of America.

Now I am seeing congressmen of both parties who make their first concern once voted in for another term to get a raise in an already lucrative salary for themselves. The average American fights to keep up with rising medical costs but they are concerned more for themselves than for the nation. When they want to blame someone it’s the other party. Both parties are guilty, I’m afraid. Or it’s easy to blame the president and after all, there’s only one of him. He’s outnumbered. These boys don’t read the bible. That shows. At least, if they do they sure don’t pay attention.

It was written that a pint of example is worth a gallon of advice.
I believe those people who have the signs posted all over the place right now need to first make themselves better examples.
This is a request of them all, Republican and Democrat.

From the land of the milked and honeyed here’s a few political faux pas and a bit of attitude exposed to the harsh light of a Canadian who actually has their own opinion.

That I hope soon to be extinct dinosaur, our government, is bludgeoned and beaten as thoroughly as the freedom of the law lets me without jail time.
