This is an article that I wrote for my church's newsletter. I am a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church, Chesterfield County Virgina and a writer for our newsletter, "The Connector". Our church has two pastors, Dr. Micah & Jacqueline McCreary, who provide us with the maximum Christian teachings and experiences.

Anointing With Oil By Brother Willie Tee

It was anticipated that the bible study at the Spring Creek Baptist Church would consist of a routine teaching of the Holy Scriptures by our pastors. At seven o’clock that warm spring Wednesday evening, there were nearly fifty parishioners sitting in the sanctuary and participating in the bible study. Pastors Micah and Jacqueline McCreary were teaching the bible study and articulate in the delivery of their teachings. The war to liberate Iraq had already begun and feelings of apprehension among the parishioners were apparent. War always brings concerns and worries to the masses of people worldwide, because it involves uncertainties.

Clearly this was an evening where the uplifting of the human spirit was a necessity. The pastors recognized that more was needed that night than teachings from the scriptures. The pastors then exclaimed, “He anointed my head with oil!” This phrase invigorates and uplifts the human spirit, because it signifies that our heavenly father sincerely adores us. It was apparent from the pastors’ exclamation that the bible study class was going to be enhanced to meet the immediate spiritual needs of the parishioners present.

A miracle occurred at Spring Creek Baptist Church that spring evening, because the pastors decided to anoint their parishioners, knowing that there was no oil available. After their announcement, Sister Henderson found some oil in a church office. Sister Henderson then provided it for the anointing. God will always provide when we are in need of his blessings! The pastors then summoned the parishioners to come forward to be anointed. Like sheep flocking to their shepherds, the parishioners assembled in a long orderly line and were anointed with oil!. The anointing of the parishioners was exhilarating and they were filled with joy and peace. After the anointing, Pastor Micah commented that in preparation for Easter, we must remember Jesus Christ’s fourth cry, “God, why have thou forsaken me?” as he hung on the cross at Calvary. Pastor Micah elaborated that usually Jesus called God “Father” but because of the extreme situation, Jesus needed more than just his “Father”. Jesus needed the power and glory of “God”. Pastor Micah expounded that Jesus’ need for God’s assistance was greater than their father and son relationship. Many times when people are in immediate need of God’s power and glory they exclaim, “God help us!” When a crisis or a serious emergency is happening at a rapid pace before our eyes, we call quickly on the power and glory of God. We instantly refer to the Heavenly Father as God. However, we should call on or pray to God when there are no crises in our life to let him know how much we love him. We should say, “God, we love you. Please keep us safe and bless us always” Then God knows that we think about him always instead of periodically when crises are at hand.

Many more miracles will occur at Spring Creek Baptist Church during the future. As Pastor Micah stated that warm spring evening, “God has already given you everything that you will need to succeed.” Success is achieved by having a strong faith in God. Keep your faith in God and he will bring you through.

The bible study group meets every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Participate in the group and learn more about the Holy Scriptures from our pastors. Knowledge of the scriptures is necessary for a thorough understanding of our Christian Faith.
