It creeps into your life, unannounced as usual, and for some reason you never see it coming. You began to feel the butterflies yearn at your very soul, and the mere absence of not seeing that hidden face becomes all too real...and the next thing you know you're in-love.

It was just like yesterday, she said, when her heart was captivated into bliss. For she never seen it coming, or recognized any of the subtled signs that were, oh, too visible to see. He was just too perfect, as perfect as a newborn gliding itself into life; innocent of course, she thought.

But soon after the honeymoon, changes began to take place, the once romantic stud no longer represented the charm that once was there. The romantic venture no longer made its way into his heart, he was too busy, he said, consumed providing food on the table. Then the babies came and that made it too difficult to see the "red flag", because  most of her time was spent juggling between the roles of playmate and mommy, but soon she discovered playmate no longer played a role in their life, she said, I  became "the just housewife and mommy." The communication we had no longer sang a melody, and the lovemaking began to cease. His business trips became longer, and his presence in the house was scarce and the make-up on his collars didn't help either, he denied them; she was crazy, he said, and that just added more fuel to the drifting relationship. And before she knew it, he was cheating; and they were irreconcilable, distance, resentful, and filing for divorce.

Now certainly, you recognized the signs, the counselor said. Of course, I didn't, I thought I was doing everything in my heart to make a good home, to be a good wife, and mother. Then wait a minute, I said, maybe I did recognized the signs, I just didn't want to see them. I didn't want to feel the pain, it was hurting too bad, and of course it was me that had to save the family's good name, I thought?

Call it what you want, the counselor said, love doesn't hurt, and cause pain. When you stop blaming yourself for other peoples' doing than maybe you can move on, and go beyond the pain. You see love doesn't hurt, and people don't hurt the one they love. Yes, it is true , that we lose sight sometimes of who we are, and our goals may change course as we grow, but the bottom line is, if it hurts then its time to count your losses and move on.

A relationship is based on two people having the same commonality, and when that changes there is nothing one can do about it. It's never easy to love, and to lose but it is much greater to have love, and not have love at all. If you have given everything you can in a relationship, and haven't receive the same, then perhaps that love may not be for you.

So many women think that they have to buried  themselves in someone else shadow to gain love, or take abuse to feel love, but real love starts within you. When you can love yourself inwardly, then that love is internalized outwardly for someone  that is mature enough to see, and feel the aura of your beautiful presence. Take care of you, because whatever you want to call it, love doesn't and should never hurt.

Hi Loretta, this one caught my interest this morning. It's never too late to respond, right? :) So many people don't understand the meaning of marriage. They give in and give up too quickly...playing right into the devil's hands (paws). Marriage is deep...God deep. Marriages if blessed by God will last through any storm because. It's the roving eyes called lust that is troubling. Love in marriage need not die. God can and will restore it if we ask, and if the asking is sincere. June 21st marked my parents 66th wedding anniversary. Did they have problems..you bet, but my parents
also had God and the fear of God to cling to.

Love doesn't hurt is a powerful title for your poem and a meaningful one. Love doesn't hurt...God never meant it to. Thanks for sharing it...sorry I'm late reading it...

God Bless
Much love
Lena

Friendship is no different, because they (friends) should know each other's tune, each other's dance, and each other's souls.

"Call It What You Want, Love Doesn't Hurt"
An entertaining, and captivating write Loretta.
Additionally, it is often times too true I would agree to the conclusion of this write indeed! "If you have given everything you can in a relationship, and haven't receive the same, then perhaps that love may not be for you" Might I add this can also apply to friendship just the same. Wouldn't you say?

Thank you for sharing your work and welcome to the Den, since this my first time partaking of your work.
Congrats on your book also continued success in your work Loretta!
