DAI - DAI

her real name is ZAIDA CANTOS.
but we call her Dai-Dai
and she smiles and she has long hair
and she’s really beautiful . . .
so childlike, so brilliant, so natural.

and she’s got these great big beautiful eyes
giving light to our own darkened and confused world
with their sunshine, their trust,
their acceptance and their love.

happy to be what she is,
just as God and nature and life
have made her.

Dai-Dai is often surprised, even embarrassed,
at the tiwala, the high regard shown to her
by her Inay, her Itay, her cousins,
and so many of her friends and acquaintances.
yet she does not want to impress
and she does not strive to impress
that’s why she is so impressive.

to be with Dai-Dai
is to be beamed to another world
where the air is fresh
and the sun is bright,
where people are content
with the good, the humble,
and the true . . .

or maybe Dai-Dai does not beam us to another world,
rather, her beautiful presence
gently beams us
back to our own innermost selves,
where things used to be, and ultimately are,
