Bad governments are elected by good people who don’t vote.

I believe it was Watson, the scientist, who once said that evolution progresses at a rate somewhere between slow and dead slow. At the time he was talking about snails but, let’s face it, we are not much different. We don’t learn much over the years.

On November 22, we shall be commemorating 45th anniversary of the death of the man who said: "Ask not what your country can do for you…" So what happened since?

Tomorrow, in Canada, we shall be casting votes for a new (or old?) government. Most of us shall vote for the person we dislike least. The problem is that we have such a limited choice. There are but 30 million of us. A shame, isn’t it?

Our friends down south have a different problem. They will have to choose between a man who, by his own submission, knows all the answers, and a man who offers to put all his strength, vigour and youthful energy to serve his country, asking for little in return. I am leery of men who know everything. Usually, they are called dictators. When my friends, both sides of the border, go to cast their votes, I hope they will remember the rest of JFK’s statement. I hope they will think only "what they can do for their country." Good luck
