The 'god' of the bible is incredibly mysogenistic. This article is just a little of 'His' anti-woman words from 'His bible.

St Paul in the first letter to Timothy decrees:
Let the women learn in silence with all subjection.
But I suffer a woman not to teach, nor to usurp authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed then Eve.
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression’. 1 TIMOTHY CHAP 2 vs14-15:



Let a woman learn in silence with full submissiveness? Where were you, Maquis de Sade, just think what you missed – full church permission!


Paul reasons:-
For a man did not originally spring from woman, but woman was made out of man; and was not created for woman’s sake, but woman for the sake of man’.


So again the misconstruing of the myth of Adam and Eve is used to hold woman in subjection. Here is a bit more of Paul’s ‘wisdom’:-


‘Wives submit to your husbands for the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is head of the Church. Now if the Church submits to Christ so should wives submit to their husbands in everything.’
And this bit:-
‘In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
1 Timothy 2 vs 9-13



Well, what a charter of womens unrights! And all based on a thorough misreading of the story of Adam and Eve. Remember – God proved to be the liar and the Serpent the truth teller. Eve was therefore a great deal more prescient that Adam - and without Eve’s courage to challenge ‘God’, none of us would be here! So St Paul is wrong on all counts.


It seems the early Gnostic Christians – the real ones before the literalists got control, who were later branded as heretics – had a different idea. Here is Tertullian, appalled at the role of Gnostic women:

…women of the heretics, how wanton they are! For they are bold enough to teach, to dispute, to enact exorcisms, to undertake cures, it may be even to baptise! (Quoted by Helen Ellerbe in The Dark Side of Christianity, p9)


And just generally appalled!
‘The judgement upon your sex endures even today; and with it inevitably endures your position at the bar of justice. (Woman) you are the gateway to hell’.
Tertullian in ‘De Cultu Feminarium’.


St Gregory of Nazianzum was not too keen on women either:
‘Women – a foe to friendship, an inescapable punishment, a necessary evil’.
‘Among save beasts, none is found so harmful as woman.’


What is it about saints?? Is part of being a saint that you hate woman, hate the feminine?? Try this from St Jerome, Epistle 107


‘I am aware that some have laid it down that virgins of Christ must not bathe with eunuchs or married women, because the former still have minds of men and the latter present the ugly spectacle of swollen bellies. For my part I say that >b>mature girls should not bathe at all, because they ought to blush to see themselves naked.’

Hysterical! Where was he at?? What on earth have all these ‘saints’ suffered so they hate and disparage their mothers, women and the feminine??


St Paul again with another tenet clearly prohibits women from being ministers or otherwise speaking in church:
“Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak”-- 1 Corinthians 14:34

And also from Corinthians 11:3 and 11:9

‘But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of every woman is the man….
‘Neither was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man.’


St Clement of Alexandria (note – a ‘saint’) in the second century wrote:
‘Every woman should be filled with shame by the thought that she is a woman.’

Isn’t that just something! I shall write that again bold so you don’t miss it.

‘EVERY WOMAN SHOULD BE FILLED WITH SHAME
BY THE THOUGHT THAT SHE IS A WOMAN.’

Well you can’t get more explicit than that. I trust all you Catholic Ladies realise that up to the mid 16th century (see below) you were not even credited with having souls by your church. You were truly considered, and treated, like an inferior species.

Turtullian – yes him again – endeavoured to explain why women deserve their inferior status:

‘And do you not know you are an Eve? The sentence of god on this sex of yours lives in this age: the guilt must necessarily live too.

They all love to dump guilt on women, don’t they. Was it that, like Augustine, he couldn’t keep his trousers on?? He continues:-


‘You are the devil’s gateway: you are the unsealer of that tree: you are the first deserter of the divine law: you are she who persuaded him whom the devil was not valiant enough to attack. You destroyed so easily God’s image, man. (!!) On account of your desert – that is death – even the son of god had to die.’


So women get blamed for the death of Jesus! But Tertullian was mild compared to what came later. Boethius, a sixth century Christian ‘philosopher’ wrote in ‘The consolation of Philosophy’.


‘Woman is a temple built upon a sewer’.


And in Job 25:4 we read: ‘How then can man be justified with God? Or how can he be clean that is born of woman?’
All this is the ‘word of god’, remember!


These guys must have had terrible problems with womens’ genitals. At the council of Macon apparently the bishops voted as to whether woman had souls at all. They decided not. At the council of Trent which took place from 1545 to 1563, I am told that it took one day for them to decide that animals don’t have souls and twenty one days and a close vote (majority of 3, I read) to decide that, perhaps after all, women do!

Here is the worst of all: From the infamous and appalling Malleus maleficorum or ‘witches hammer’.


‘Because the female sex is more concerned with things of the flesh than men; because being formed from a man’s rib (That Adam and Eve nonsense again) they are only imperfect animal and crooked whereas man belongs to a privileged sex from whose midst Christ emerged’.
