Every family all over the world look forward to the growth of their children and with prospect of seeing them grow to become more successful in life than the parents. Aspirations of the parents always grow higher in anticipation to a prosperous and better future. These aspirations are not limited to the family alone but to the community and the society at large as much development could be achieved by the youths.
Countries round the globe who value and invest much on the growth of their youths are better off than those who had constantly neglected the value and dreams of their youths and had rubished the saying "the young shall grow". Nations that have sound mind cherish their youths and invest so much in them in regards to their education,job creation, skill aquisition and other welfare packages. This honourable treatment from these nations to their youths in turn brings sanity in all aspect of life, discipline, contentment, good governanace, high productivity and all other good qualities of life. Government in these countries had laid down good principles and policies guiding all the activities,which is religiously adhered to and fully implemented.
But reverse is the case in some other countries especially in the African region, where the youths are left like sheep without a shepherd. They are left to roam the streets and wasting away in search of jobs that never come. Their livelihood had been jeopardised after so many years of agonizing school system and a lot of resources and funds wasted by their poor parents in getting them trained.
The most annoying is that,while we think there is no job or vacancy in public enterprises, parastatals and agencies, jobs are there wasting in the hands of the unqualified civil servants who had put in over 25years in service without much output. A visit to some of these parastatals and offices will shock you to the marrows where you will find out that 3/4 of the workforce are lying idle, crossing their legs on the desk, having fun and reading newspapers and still receiving their fat salaries without working out anything. They at times choose to attend to public work for 2 or 3 days in a week,using the rest of the days for their own private business.
If eventually a youth searching for a job gets to some of these parastatals for a job, they will cunningly turn the youth back for lack of no job. But if one is fortunate enough to secure employment with any of these offices, they will go extra length to get the job or the persons life terminated. They show natural hatred and frustrate the youth concerned.
Most of these civil servants wasting the public funds are unqualified, non graduates and do not have the intellect to manage some of the tedious and demanding aspect of our public enterprises. Some were educated through community offorts, scholarships and free education of the past which is now not extended to the present youths. The present youths have become victims of circumstance, fending for themselves and being subjected to so much ridicule after excruciating pains of the education system.
It will be of tremendous benefit if the Government concerned and those in authority will realize that the future of these countries lies in the hands of their youths. This ugly trend had to be stopped and something done fast to put up measures and policies that will ensure massive retirement of those who had put in more than 25years of service in public enterprises and no more useful to the workforce and massively replace them with our teeming, vibrant and experienced youths that have been wasting away for years. They will be able to use modern day technology for maximum production and increased output. This method should be adopted yearly to absorb the teeming youths and graduates which keeps increasing daily. This will drastically reduce the problem of unemployment, youth restiveness and voilence in our society and will help in cordinating the workforce effectively and put every civil servants on his or her toes, as to judiciously utilize and properly invest his or her earnings wisely for future, knowing fully well that he or she will be retired from service within a specified period of time. By so doing, a lot of resources and manpower that had been wasting must have been reduced to an extent. 'A stitch in time they say saves nine'.
