A letter request written for someone that was in a abusive relationship and wanted to leave a letter behind after she left him...

You have hit me, for the last time,
You have broken my spirit, for the last time,
You have said bad things to me, for the last time,
You have spit on me, for the last time,
You have shouted at me, for the last time,
You have cursed me, for the last time,

I have broken all these arrows of pain that you have shoved in chest, for the last time

I will not mistaken your broken words and promises that you will not hurt me again, for the last time

My fist and my will to live are my shield and my sword against you and you will hurt me no more, for the last time

For you see, I am rising up from my knees now and I can finally see your face through my swollens eyes

So I say to you, everything you think you have done to break me, you have already done to break yourself.

Look at my hands because they are reaching for the door that leads me away from you.

I don't need to take anything with me because my life is all that I need to start over

So remember, after I leave you here and now, don't bother to reach for me, because I will not reach back for you like I've done so many times before.

Don't say I love you to me any more, because I know now more than ever you don't treat people that you love this way...

My hands are silent, and my heart and my lips will never speak your name again, this I swear to you.

Goodbye...

I'm a survivor of a ten year abusive marriage and can tell you that this is exactly how it feels. To most people it doesn't make sense to leave your abuser a letter. Somehow, I felt like I had to leave something too. I left supper in the warming oven. (which 20 years later makes me want to laugh) It is a part of the breaking away process for women who leave. I'm working with a publisher right now on a fictionalized version of my story and a picture of what women go through as they free themselves. It has an underlying theme of hope for the future. Thanks for sharing this letter.

I run a dmv support blog at http://thelaststraw.wordpress.com and would like your permission to post this letter. It was very moving and I think my readers will like to read it as well. I read much of your writing tonight and really enjoyed it.

Also, someone posted below that abuser doesn't devere a letter, I agree but being abused in teh past, we feel the need to write that letter, even if it is never sent or read by abuser.

Sincerely,
Rebecca

Well said Jonathon. You might be interested to read my poem "Broken." I am a retired clinical social worker and was inspired to write this poem by one of my many abused clients.

It's a well writen letter, but anyone that does that to another person is not entitled to an explaination, nor are they worth one. For that matter, they are not worth anything except distain and disgust.

May she be well and whole and happy. This is dreadfully sad. The person who wrote this has more love in her than I can express: it's evident in every word.
