A Conversation Between A Cashier & A Customer

I held up my Price Chopper card and he aimed his handheld scanner at it, and "Beep!"

"How are you doing today?" He asked me with a smile.

"Good." I replied as I pocketed my card and smiled back.

He asked if I had found everything O.K., and I nodded.

The conversation turned toward these days, and although neither of us mentioned the Pandemic, we both understood the unspoken generalities we now traded.

Out of the blue, he mentioned the recent incident that had happened to a man in Minneapolis, and added, "I believe in protesting something like that, don't you?"

"He was treated wrong", I agreed.

Then as if expecting more, he commented, " I mean, I wouldn't be destructive or anything like that....but, I could get into some of that rough and tumble," or words to that effect. "Do you want your S.O.S. pads in a seperate bag, or..."

"You can just leave them out, I'll just put them in my cart, thanks." before adding, "I know someone who made a huge difference but never marched, or hurt anyone or any of that."

"You mean, Martin Luther King, right?"

"No."

He paused and shot me a quizzical look. "Who?"

"Jesus Christ."

He was ready to grab my grocery receipt from the register but hesitated.

Now, I was the only customer in line, and he looked very curious to know more, so I continued. "He changed the course of human history, I mean our Calendar was even affected by his life, right? And all He did was love people who did wrong."

The cashier paused as he got ready to hand me my receipt, seeming to mull over what I was saying in his mind. "You know, I've read through the whole Bible from beginning to end, but there's one book in it that stumps me...Revelation."

"Well", I responded, "Basically God is letting us know that everything will turn out all right in the end."

He got ready to hand me my receipt.

"That is, It will turn out all right for those who ask Him to forgive their sins, and follow Him." After I told him that, it was almost as if time stood still for a moment. Then it started to move forward once again.

"Thanks." he replied thoughtfully handing me the receipt.

Yes, Jesus Christ was a great role model that Gandhi and Martin Luther King emulated. He also was able to, "Throw the moneychangers out of the temple."

I'm all for throwing those moneychangers who have taken over our government out in favor of people who are willing to serve our country with little or no compensation for their good work except the honor for doing so. That was originally intended by the wealthy forefathers of the United States of America. That is not the case, today, in spite of our president claiming not to accept the presidential salary. His failure to reveal his taxes is something Jesus would not do.

Parting the masses with pepper spray to hold up a Bible as his authority, is also something that Jesus would not do.

Candidly recounted David. IMO, understanding Revelation requires taking to heart 2nd Timothy 2:15, and then digging in. Revelation 22:17 is one of the most beautiful verses in the Bible. "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely."
