Mother’s day this May
It is often stated that there are three examples of unconditional love, our God above, a dog, and a mother. We have all read stories of a mother’s love. Mothers’ feed us, protect us, guide us, and nurture us when needed. Remember the meals that mom served, the emotional comfort she gave us, and how she was there for us when we got hurt physically or emotionally.
The book “Josephine in Her Words” is a love story that is told through the recalled words of a mother, which are expanded upon by a devoted and grateful son. This book was written for Josephine as a gift on her 90th birthday. Through it we learn about Josephine and the depth of her love by her simple yet powerful words that were spoken to her children, and to the people she knew.
Josephine did not have a command of the English language. She came to America from Italy when she was 18. What Josephine lacked in vocabulary, she made up in simple and heartfelt words. When she spoke, her face lit up, as she knew in her heart that the words spoken were from God. Josephine was unique in that she believed that if you did not have anything good to say about someone, you should say nothing. Every word was chosen to help the person she spoke to.
Mother would say: “You should tell the children that they are God’s children. You should tell everyone, the parents too”. Other advice she would give is, “Whatever you do in your heart God knows.” “He knows your heart”. This was her collection of wisdom words: “You have two roads, the narrow one and the wide one, the wide one you can do everything. The wide road is the devil’s the narrow road is Jesus, it’s hard to find again”. This was Mom’s way of saying to take the high road.
Today, more than ever, Mothers need good words to pass on to the children and to other family members. “Josephine in Her words” is an ideal gift to give that special mom.
In M<y Mothers words "Taking care of the children is our most important job. Mom has been gone for 2 years and yet she is still with us. My wish for you is that your mom is there for you. Know that your mom did the best she knew how.
