“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus…”

 

We are living in an age of “dumbed down America”…of course, the same can probably be said for most of the other countries in the world, thanks to the progressive, liberal mindsets, electronics, and all sorts of social media. Progressivism has millions in mental bondage. 

 

We see the Bible says, “ever learning, but never coming to the knowledge of the truth.”

 

As the thought came to mind, thus the title of this article, free thinkers are a rare commodity. Most don’t even take the time to think or reason. It’s now AI or Siri or google who does the thinking for them.  

If you don’t believe me, give a cashier a piece of green money, with change so you can get back a bill rather than a handful of change, and it blows them away. Sometimes I do it just for the fun of it, to watch the expressions, especially if it’s $10.16 and I give her a $20, a quarter and a penny, so I can get back a $10 and a dime.  Can’t do it.

So, the term “dumbed down America” aptly fits. No ability to reasonably figure out anything that requires ‘thinking’.  Little to no social skills, except among their employee peers, and sometimes it’s discussions with TMI for me as a customer. 

 

I’d laugh, but seriously it’s a scary time now. Of course, this shoe doesn’t fit in every situation, but just to make the readers aware of the growing number of non-thinkers versus free thinkers. 

 

The scripture text is where I’d like to put my focus. 

Paul penned these words in Philippians 2:5-11, and it admonishes us as followers of Christ to be free thinkers in spiritual matters above carnal matters. 

Free thinkers aren’t swayed by the cares of the world; their thoughts are not compromised to fit the status quo. As a free thinker, it doesn’t matter to me what someone else says or does, if my knowledge of a situation is set in the rock of the word of God, my thinking will remain steadfast. 

James gave a view of someone who isn’t a free thinker…ch. 1:8, “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

 

The older I get, the more I see Mama in me…she loved to watch people. And much like our President Trump, she usually had a nickname for them, even though she had no clue who they were. I chuckle to myself just reminiscing some of the times she showed out. Her birthday was yesterday, July 24th, and she’s been gone now fifteen years. Hard to believe, and the void is still just as deep and wide in my heart as it was the day she left. But the cherished memories have helped me get to where I am today. I love to think about her and Daddy, and talk about them. It takes me back to my childhood, my adolescent years, my teenage years, my adult years, and then my almost senior years. They weren’t educated, but full of common sense and were free thinkers, not being swayed by every wind of doctrine. 

 

One of the most vital components in free thinking is discernment. Don’t leave home without it. If you know Jesus, He will expand your knowledge and you will find strength in His directions. 

If you don’t know Jesus, your mind will be held  captive and your sense of directions will be null and void. 

These are serious times…Heaven and hell await…our choices now determine where we will spend eternity. 

 

Jesus said, “If the Son (Jesus) therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”

 

BE A FREE THINKER!
