                                     "Why Not Me"

                                               By

                                      Dimetrous Nixon

Many times when we as individuals began to have problems, whether they be finiancial, sickness, or death, we began to feel that we ar being picked on, or signaled out.  This was not the case of me.  Let's began with some of my struggles, I've had during the years.  It first began back in 1982, when my father Guy Whytus became ill.  He started out by being very forgetful.  His health was already bad because of lung disease.  We noticed his behavior for about two months, then took him to the doctor, and was told maybe it was due to the medicine.  Later in the year we discovered it was a brain tumor, so the next four or five months he struggled, and finally passed away in November of 1982.  Since I am the older child a lot of the responsibility fell on me.

During the next year of 1983, my grandmother, Abbie Whytus who was older, and in bad health took ill.  Since my dad was an only child, again her care was left to me.  By her living by herself, I would have to leave my home many nights to go and sit with her, plus I worked a full time job, and had a family also.  Then in February of 1984 she passed away.  For a while things got a little bette for me, and I thought well everythig has leveled off, and it did for a while.

In 1996 around January, I started to feel so tired all the time.  I thought that it was just a slow recovery from the flu.  I could barely get out of bed, and get ready for work.  This went on until April.  I was married to a minster, and he had to be out of town for a week.  By this time, I was still tired, but still working, and my mouth became so sore, I could barely eat.  My husband Bill left on a Sunday, and my son came down on that Monday to stay and help me that day, and we thought I was o.k.  On Monday my mother came down to stay a while with me, but went home and returned on Tuesday morning.  She could see there was something wrong, but didn't know what.  My speech had began to slur.  On Tuesday night I went into a diabetic coma.  I had no idea I was diabetic.  My blood sugar was 1400, yes you heard me right.  Most people don't usually live after sugar being that high, but it just wasn't my time.  I stayed in I.C.U. for a period of three days, but began to improve each day.  So here I am.

In 1998 my mother, Helen Whytus became ill, and again it was up to me.  She began to get ill in January and then in April, we discovered that she had lung cancer.  So here I go again.  She went into the hospital in May and stayed until she passed away in June of 1998.  Her sister had just passed away in January of lund cancer also.  Six months apart.  Well trying to get on track again, my husband took ill.

On July 2002, my husband, Maceal Nixon was taken to the hospital with a bladder infection, but discovered his calcuim level was too high.  Then in August of the same year he suffered a stroke, which left him without use of the left side.  Here I go again.  I took care of him at home, along with working full time everyday.  His care was left slely to me because my son lived in another town.  In December of 2003 I retired, but in March of 2004 my husband passed away.

In 2005, my brother, William Whytus was was in a local nursing home bacame ill, so here I go again.  From 2005 until February 2008 he was very ill.  Again me because I am the only one who lives here.  He passed away in February of 2008.

I am 60 years old now, and appear to be in basically good health, but I never became discouraged, because everyone has some type of problem.  I finally stopped one day to thank God, and say "Why Not Me?'

"Worry looks around, Sorry looks back, but Faith

           looks up."

Wow Dimetrous,
You are very strong. I do believe God only allow us to be burdened with what we can handle. No one but you could have handled those situations, because you have been pre-ordained with a special gift of being able to handle tough situations like non other. I bet you have been a pillar of strength for people that you might not even be aware are actually learning from you. I remember what happened to me around four years ago. I was very badly treated by a former principal, and I mean I do not have the time to even go into details, come to find out this man had been mistreating people for the past 12 years, but when I came along I was able with God's help fight back and he later was fired. Many people came up to me and thanked me for taking a stand and that him being fired was poetic justice. Low and behold the assistant principal replaced this evil man, little did I know he too would mistreat me . He is the one who layed me off because he is a racist. You will not believe what just happened as of yesterday. There is a huge article about how African American teachers are being discriminated upon and now they are filing a complaint with the Board of education. I did ask God at one point Why me? Why am being placed with these crazy principals, I just want to teach kids not fight a battle? God gave me my answer loud and clear. sometimes he uses us in order to help his people in one way or another. We do not always understand why or how. So keep up the faith, you are a very strong person. God bless.
