remember and sometimes long to revisit the broadcast airing of the REAL music awards shows(80’s thru early 90’s) of the good ole’ days, where the vast majority of the musicians actually possessed musical talent and skill.
This was long before all the Puff N’ Fluff bullshit that the networks air every year and call it a music awards show.
I was heavy into music at that time as well as a amatuer musician/songwriter and as a huge fan of the industry. I used to wonder why those winners would most of the time always thank God first for their success up to that point.
I learned later about music and musicians, that it’s either a GOD-given talent or a person has the creativity, tenacity and perseverance or both to conquer any musical feat put before them. 
There were always a few “Overnight sensations”, musicians and/or bands that came out of nowhere and won this prestigious award. No one had heard much of them before that night.
The truth is as a musician, 
there are endless hours, days, weeks, months, years of study, practice, practice, practice and then some that no one ever witnesses nor care to witness as musicians hone their talent and skills. The audience is only interested in the end result…A polished, talented musician with a solid musical selection that can 
be enjoyed by all.
The good comes from starting to go after your dream with passion, The Great comes from perseverance and tenacity, and gut-wrenching stick-to-it ness regardless of small set-backs along the way. To be ICONIC is remembering the fundamental regimen(s) that got you to the top of your game.
Ted Turner, the Broadcast Mogul started CNN back in the 80’s, by the 90’s , it was a household name. Ted was a billionaire by the time he was interviewed by 60 Minutes in the late 90’s. He still had a work ethic that would put an entire current generation to shame. The interviewer asked him…” why do you still work this hard and such long days, when you have people that could do this for you?.
He calmly looked at the ceiling, then scanned the room with his eyes, looked the interviewer straight in the eyes, …” I think and sometimes worry that this could all go away if i wasn’t on top of it”…”and I know the work ethic that got us here and will keep us here, that’s why I work so hard, and I love it.”
Fundamentals of any profession, skill or talent NEVER go “out-of STYLE”.
It will take you from Good to Great to ICONIC.

There are those here who say the greatest music came out of the Great Depression. There are those that say it came out of the great war and big bands like my father. There are those that say it came out of the folk music and rock 'n' roll of the 50s and 60s like me. There are even those who say the greatest music came out of the 70s.
I don't watch the music awards much. And there are still great songs and hard-working experienced performers. But I notice a trend towards flash (without substance) rapid-fire lyrics matching rap, and showmanship overshadowing talent. The change is inevitable in the iconic seem to get better with age. I even like songs by Stephen Foster like Camptown Races and Old Kentucky Home. Did he get any awards for those?
