Natural Heart, Lung and Blood Institute

This is the division of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) that deals with respiratory illnesses such as asthma. Provides easy-to-understand information on asthma and how to manage it. They also publish research studies. I find the NIH to be the most reliable source of health information on the Web. They also do a great job of making their information understandable for the layperson.

The Lung Association of Canada

The Lung Association is an organization with a mission of promoting and improving respiratory health in Canada. You can find asthma information, news headlines, and tips on how to get help for asthma in Canada.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

This website provides general information and information on asthma treatments. I recommend visiting the site if you are interested in getting the latest information from the US Government on environmental health concerns related to asthma. There are also even more links to some great asthma resources.

National Jewish Medical Center

This is another great resource for learning about asthma and how to manage it. One great feature is the "Asthma Wizard", which is an animated guide to learning about asthma that is suitable even for children.

American Lung Association

American Lung Association is the oldest voluntary health organization in the United States. They provide information on asthma, allergies, and other respiratory illnesses as well as ways to stop smoking. For in-depth information on ongoing clinical trials, go to the American Lung Association’s Clinical Research Centers.

American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology

American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology is one of the nation’s largest professional medical specialty organizations. Their journal is highly respected worldwide, with many studies about asthma each month.

National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute

The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute plans, conducts, and supports research, clinical trials, and observational studies related to the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of heart, blood vessel, lung, and blood diseases, and sleep disorders.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases conducts research in allergic asthma and infections, such influenza. The NAIAD funded the National Inner City Asthma Study, which determined that control of indoor allergens improved asthma control in children living in cities across the U.S.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

This agency has funded many studies about the dangers of outdoor air pollution, such as ozone, NOX, sulphur dioxide, and smoke, for those with asthma.  They produce “Tools for Schools,” a great guide for reducing asthma triggers in schools, and have a fun Kids Club for sleuthing causes of environmental disease.
