Recently, this year the Social Security Administration mailed out thousands of their Ticket to Work and Pass to Self-Support to thousands of Disabled Americans throughout the United States.
However, one thing is certain. This Ticket To Work Program will not work for the many thousands of Americans who are currently on Social Security Disability or Supplementary Security Income if they are
collecting payments for "mental illness" i,e, depression,
schziophrenia, the one of many personality disorders,
or the ones with dual diagnose either.
A dual diganose is one that consists of the following:
learning disability and mental illness, depression and
personality disorders, depression and schziophrenia,
or any other combination thereof.
Most vocational training programs run by the State Vocational Rehabilitation Services and other employment networks are geared towards those with physical disabilities or developemental disabilities and not towards those Ameicans with mental illness or dual diagnoses of the mental illnesses and learning disabilities above.
This author has personally went through three state vocational rehab services and many private vocational training programs and has not been successfully placed into any work setting, due to the nature of her mental illness.
I do give full credit to the Great State of Alabama
and the Federal Government for paying for my
post secondary education. However, even with such education the stigmatism still surround those of us with
mental illness and learning disabilities.
When or if you do receive your Ticket To Work
from Social Security. Make sure you go to the mytickettowork.com and check out the list of
Employment Netwoks to make sure they provide what you need if you do have mental illness or
learning disabilites.
The Ticket To Work Program may work for some but not for all.
