I received an email from them out of the blue. There is nothing under, "Vendor Pro Beware" on Google.

I won't be into marketing my novel for a while. Their rep knows it and applied absolutely no pressure to invest in his service now.
To register with them it costs $340 a year. Optional charges [$45] are for adding a link to my web site from theirs as well as another $85 to showcase my novel in what is termed "special advertising sections".
Vendor Pro claims it has been doing business for three years.

Some excerpts:
1: "There are millions of large retailers, gift stores, specialty shops, mail-order catalogs and Internet shopping sites looking for books just like yours to sell in their stores. They buy up front, do not return, and continue to order from you once your books sells."
2: "Landing just one account is guaranteed to boost your profits."
3: "Once your book is posted on our site, it is instantly showcased to our network of stores and emailed to shops requesting products just like yours."
4: "In fact, you'll receive responses during the year you are registered or we'll refund your registration fee 100%. So there's no risk."
5: "Your book will have its own page based on the questions you answer."
6: "Your products are instantly emailed to purchasing agents who are looking for books just like yours. We work hard to get your book sold by targeting the right buyers for you."
7: "...no transactions are run through our web site."
8: "Vendor Pro...has tracked down thousands of the world's premier retail buyers..."
9: "You'll receive contact information and descriptions for over 20,000 mail-order catalog companies."
10: "We'll show you how to get your products featured in over 60,000 newspapers."

I would appreciate any feedback [as I assume would other writers who are on a tight budget and trying to find good ways to promote their books, too.]

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

William;

I've never heard of Vendor Pro but, believe me, their pitch ain't the way the book business works. I'm assuming your novel is self-published, which makes it difficult to get attention from retailers but not impossible.

Start with retailers in your own home town. If the book sells well they will tell their friends in other markets and you are on your way.

You would be better off investing that $470 upfront money in reviewer's copies of your book to be sent to newspaper Books editors in selected markets across the country. Start with large to medium size markets. If you have success with these start sending them out to more medium markets and also to smaller markets.

Search the Internet for willing reviewers and make copies available to them. If you are short of cash ask if they will accept electronic submissions.

If you get some good reviews link your web page with E-Bay and Amazon and post them those outlets, your web page serving as the ordering medium.

Good luck;

Dan S.
