20 Ways To Know

What is a toxic person? 20 ways to know.

You feel confused and inadequate in their presence

They speak down to you and you feel small

They make you the brunt of jokes and disrespect

They make fun of your weaknesses and strengths

If you have a gift or talent, they belittle it and you

They show no positive interest in your life

They gossip about you and make up slander

They turn others against you

They show open contempt toward you

They are never there for you in hard times

They constantly unfavorably compare you to others

They hold grudges for things you did or didn't do

They try to make you pay for perceived wrongs

They constantly scapegoat you

They put you down not lift you up

They find hundreds of little ways to belittle you

They leave you out of conversations and activities

They treat you like an unworthy outsider

They freely criticize you and everything you do

You may love them (they are family or friends) but you wish you had no contact with them.

That is a sad state of affairs. No one should ever be in that position. Unfortunately, anyone with a disability often finds toxic people around who claim to help.

With the Internet, young people often get easily join clicks online. But those very cliques can turn very toxic, very quickly. So many suicides are happening, motivated by what young people perceive on the Internet. Hopefully something will intervene and stop the eventual outcome.

Often those who escape such toxic relationships are very exceptional and talented people like you. I'm so glad you come to a place where you can write about freely.

So true. Unfortunately, far too many in our culture are afflicted with the dis-ease, manifesting in toxicity, that like our scientific studies, seems to know no end.

Yes, so true and when you truly love some one, you accept all of this and more hoping that they will come around and love you for the person you are...but it is a false hope. Still, you cannot let go and as you die slowly day by day, sadly the love does not...

I deeply relate and understand and it's worse for people who are highly sensitive intuitive people. I have found the best way to deal with them is simply don't go around them and if I have to let the steam build and then kindly set boundaries like they have never experienced in love however. Then they immediately change but it takes sometimes profound prayer of courage...Great article La Belle
