A $1 Trillion Dollar U.S. Infrastructure Plan
America’s highways, bridges, railways, seaports, pipelines, internet, and airports are falling apart. We need to fix them. It will take 10 years and $1 trillion. The payback is huge, far more than the cost. The cost will be shared by all of us, with benefits going to everyone. A $1 trillion infusion into the economy to pay for the costs will produce $6 trillion in GDP, 4.8 million jobs, $5.1 trillion in personal incomes, and $2.4 trillion in new tax revenues at all levels of government (local, state, and national). It is an investment in ourselves with additional paybacks that far exceed even those that I have listed. Infrastructure makes virtually every last element of our economy work in transporting goods, people, commodities, and information. The dollar value of those four aspects of economic activity coming together reliably and efficiently over a long time span are incalculable, even by my trusty TI hand calculator,
There is no rational argument that anyone can raise against this project. There is an incredibly stupid argument that can and will be raised. And that is this: “If we do this it will make the person occupying the White House look good, therefore let’s don’t do it.” And the follow up is to simply vote it down in Congress. That would leave intact the present system of fixing the economy, namely: Give another $1 trillion in tax breaks to the wealthy and assert that they will throw a few crumbs into the project through the generosity of their souls. Of course, in the entire course of human history, that “fix” has never happened.
And so, we are left with finding and delivering a lot of names to Congress with the hope of embarrassing them to do the job we hired them to do. How many names? I don’t know. But let’s go for 312 million. If that doesn’t work, maybe 1 billion will.
I am not the focal point for this call to action. The Campaign for America’s Future is manning this campaign under the banner The People’s Budget. To support them, click on the preceding link, sign their petition, then copy and paste this article and send it to 50 of your closest friends, and ask them to do the same. In just 5 levels of forwarding’s that network will multiply outward to 312 million recipients.
So far more than 43,000 have signed. Let’s go for it!
