Once again, I didn't have time to listen to the whole interview, but if you endorse her, so will I. Immediately, as Pia (Pamela) read from that very poignant story, it took me back to my childhood and all of the farms that had mud rooms and with those smells that sometimes even accompanied farmers when they came to the city. She certainly is a detailed and remarkable storyteller. I loved her description of how she took that great picture that fits the book perfectly.

Our driveway in Marshfield was rotten red granite. The whole area around Wausau used the glacier made available granite for roadways and it was excellent for shedding water and less dusty than gravel roads.

I spent my elementary years in Wausau. Picked beans on many farms to the south and east of Wausau, but not northwest. The town of Hull, named after my great-grandfather, is directly west of Wausau about 40 miles. He had a mail route between Abbotsford and Medford. My mother showed me a story written back then about life on the farm there.
