Was it a fantasy, or did I really converse with a mummy on the day before Halloween?

The day before Halloween

I went to a history Museum:

They were showing Egyptian mummies there

And I thought I’d like to see’em.

I marveled at the artifacts

Retrieved from ancient tombs

And felt a sense of mystery

As I wandered through those rooms.

Just before I reached the exit

Now alone and running late,

I saw a single mummy

In a coffin quite ornate

I fond that I was drawn to it

In a way I can’t explain

Then I heard from it a whisper

That was audible and plain!

Perhaps I might have dreamt it,

But that mummy spoke to me

And we had a conversation

About his history.

When he’d finished all the details

He bound me to secrecy

So I gave an undertaking

That the facts would stay with me.

Just before I turned to leave him

I told him of Halloween

And invited him to a party,

But I sensed he wasn’t keen.

“I am afraid I cannot go,” he said,

I hope you will not mind:

You see, my friend, if I relax

I’ll probably unwind!”
