Uncertain Wonders 11/27/2004 6:02:35 PM
I guess I would be considered from the right
Am I from the right? I suppose I am, Why? I am not sure. I guess because I am more conservative in my thoughts and beliefs, and the thoughts and beliefs I write of here are mine and mine alone and are not subject to debate. Does because I am from the right mean that I like war? Of course not, what kind of nonsense is that. Now I am not an educated man, I have never claimed to be. I guess I could get on this internet and go to news sites or other sites that would have all the facts and figures that I could put on here to try to prove a point, but I probably couldn’t figure out how to find them anyway. So what I will write about are things that I personally wonder about, and what and how I see things. This war that is going on is obviously the big granddaddy debate issue right now, running neck and neck with the I just hate Bush thing, so I will just talk about the war for now.
Unlike what appears to be the view of some, I don’t believe that half of this country likes war. Those who do like war I believe would be so few and far between they wouldn’t even register on the scale. But that the fact is that war has always happened and probably always will. I read here about how Iraq didn’t attack us, Osama did. Like I said I am not all that educated and don’t know all the facts, but I wonder, did Hitler attack us? Was that our war? Where we right to go into there?
On here as on most news channels I hear the negative parts of this war, and Lord know their number is many and they are tragic. On here I hear quotes from solders of the horrors of the war and how wrong it is for us to be there. What I don’t hear on here are the other remarks I hear from friends of mine whose sons or daughters are over there, talking of the good they are doing and how they are accepted and encouraged by the people of Iraq. I know of an Iraqi family living here in the states. As this war was gearing up a friend of mine was talking to this woman about Iraq. The lady told her that what we see on television here is not how it really is in Iraq, she said on television here they are showing you small groups of people protesting and burning US flags. She said that the large majority of people in Iraq pray everyday that the US would come and remove Sadam. That woman’s words inspired me to write a poem that I will include with this write.
What I wonder about is what could be. If we could help clean Iraq up and somehow how help them form some type of democratic society. Could it be that once this country gets a taste of freedom, that they would like it so much that they would fight to the death to defend this new found freedom? And then would other countries see this freedom and want it also? Could a freedom like this spread through a region? If this would happen would it be worth the price that has been paid? I guess that is a question that we all have to search our own hearts for to find an answer. Could it be that someday it will be looked back upon and people will say, We did the right thing? Time will tell.
Uncertain Wonders
The guns are locked and loaded,
Troops are dug into the ground.
It appears that in the world,
Another tyrant needs brought down.
The men await their orders,
Their all, prepared to give.
But the wars already started,
Among the people where we live.
Americans fight with one another,
Are we right or are we wrong?
That we should learn to mind our business,
And stay home where we belong.
But I wonder just what we would think,
If the truth we really knew?
What goes on beyond that border?
If they were free to share their views.
Would they gladly face the danger,
If war will set them free?
Do the benefits outweigh the cost,
If free they all can be?
What will the people have to say?
When freely they can speak.
Will they be relieved to see us?
Or will they spit upon our cheek?
Will their words be bitter toward us?
“Go back home where you belong!”
Or haunting words echoed from Auschwitz
“What took you guys so long?”
