Chaos and carnage in New Orleans! 9/2/2005 5:39:14 AM
We’ve been watching for days the incredible events that have unfolded in New Orleans. As a New Yorker I witnessed first hand the horrors that unfolded this very month, several years ago. 9/11 to every native New Yorker is forever etched in our minds and seared in our hearts, and we more then any city can understand the horrors that can grip a city, in time of chaos and carnage I remember vividly that incredible day, the sights, the sounds, the fear etched on every face and the uncertainty that followed. However unlike this tragedy in New Orleans we had leadership, we had a strong mayor who took control and by shear will held a city together.
Within the first hours of the attack, he himself almost lost his own life and in fact lost most of his commanders in the field and yet with bull horn in hand, he prevailed. He reminded New Yorkers that he was in control the government of New York did abandon its people.
What is taking place on the Gulf Coast and in particular in New Orleans is a National Tragedy, and I ask myself again and again where is the leadership?
Where is the mayor of New Orleans? Where is the Governor of LA? Where is the President of this great land?
Certainly there must have been contingency plans? New Orleans is below sea level; certainly the leadership of the city had to know that, every second grader knows that, then why the carnage that is taking place.
9/11 was a sneak attack, with no warning, with no planning, and yet within an instant, leadership prevailed. Central command within the World Trade Center was instantly destroyed, and yet leadership never wavered.
I’ve watched in disbelief, a beautiful city turned ugly, not by a natural event, but by man made events that have turned good people into refugees, and bad people into predators, and I again ask where’s the leadership?
