Poetry of Esther Parent Durocher: A Kiss

I would have loved to have asked my great-grandmother about the story behind her second poem. I know that these were written during a time when there was a lot of stress in her marriage and family life. However, there is no clue as to what prompted this short verse.

The start were shining
and the moon
But then 'twas a summer night in June
I ought to, I know; But were it to save me
I cannot forget the kiss you gave me

It was not right, I know, but then
The stars were bright and the moon shone when it happened
And were it to save me
I cannot forget the kiss you gave me

We are good friends still
Polite and formal
Long past is that summer's night in June

I know it was wrong
And were it to save me
I cannot forget the kiss you gave me
