And how was YOUR day? 6/20/2008 11:36:23 AM
Water, water, everywhere............. There WILL be no dinner at my house. I can’t cook at home because my kitchen is filled up with dehumidifiers and fans. So is my downstairs bathroom and basement.
Yesterday morning my man was taking his shower in the upstairs bathroom. The drainpipe in the shower broke. Yeah, fun, fun, fun. I happened to be standing close to the open basement door at the time and heard torrents of water flooding into the basement. So I rushed upstairs and shouted, “Shut off the shower! Water is pouring into the basement!”
“I’ve got soap in my eyes,” he complained.
“So, rinse out the soap and shut off the freaking water!”
I rush back down to the basement and position as many buckets as I have over the spots where water is pouring down, but the flood doesn’t seem to abate, so I rush back upstairs and my darling is still showering!!!!!!!!! I’m afraid I wasn’t nice.
“SHUT OFF THE WATER RIGHT THIS SECOND!” I screamed like a common fishwife. “We have a broken water pipe from this shower! The basement is flooding.”
That gets his attention.
Seems HE thought the basement was leaking because of the recent heavy rains.
‘Fraid my niceness gene still refused to work. “What part of water pouring into the basement didn’t you understand?”
He thought I “was exaggerating.”
Ooooooooooh, he’s still alive, but only because I love him. He offered to stay home and help me deal with the emergency (i.e., plumbers, restoration people, etc.) but it’s my house and I told him I was so damn angry with him that it probably would be best if he weren’t in it right now. He skedaddled off to work. He’s not used to me being mad. I’m a very even-tempered person.
So, now I have a three-foot hole in my downstairs bathroom ceiling from the water damage, drying equipment on every available surface, and a total bill (when restoration is complete) of about $2,500.
He took me for dinner last night. Damn good thing, too. He’ll take me for dinner again tonight—or he doesn’t eat. LOL.
That was my day yesterday. Today has been better—unless I get home to find that all the heavy-duty drying equipment has killed my electrical system!
