For the new novel, I'm returning to my roots and making an urban fantasy set in a small Southern town.
While I was researching the novel, I came across several monsters rooted in the U.S and Appalachia. An interesting one is the "Jersey Devil". In lore, "Mother Leeds" was tired of children and said her next would be the devil. The child was a creature with hooves and a forked. It has large, leather wings and a horse's head.
Supposedly, there has been many sightings throughout history.
In legend, seeing a Jersey Devil is a bad omen that could precede war or shipwrecks.
