Saddam: The Rat
Much has been made about the manner in which Saddam
Hussein was caught. The administration, politicians and
reporters have all been using phrases like “trapped like a
rat”, found “cowering in a spider hole”, a “disheveled
haggard looking bum”, etc. My question is “and what were you
expecting”?
I’m no fan of Saddam, but really folks. Here’s a guy who
has the most powerful military machine in the history of the
world scouring for him. Orders to get Saddam, “dead or
alive.” Two maybe more bunkers he’s been in have been
reduced to cinders. Both of his sons killed in a firefight
with the U.S. Army. Were you really expecting him to be
parading around on the top of that hut with a large,” GO
HOME YANKEE DOG”, sign?
Me? I’d be lying on the bottom of some Baghdad sewer with
a really long snorkel.
Given the circumstances I think he looked remarkably well.
