Astrology: A Path Toward Understanding the Self 7/7/2013 11:35:39 AM
I was fifty-nine years old when I was introduced to Astrology - up until that point in time of my personal and professional development, I was truly unaware of its potential to expand my appreciation of human nature. I think about that pivotal day in my life's journey when I was asked by an astrologer and fellow academic, "Myra, would you like me to do your chart?" I answered somewhat hesitatingly, but nonetheless empowered myself with a hearty, "Yes." That day ranks as one of the more memorable ones in my life. "Why," you might say was that so? Well, I no longer am the same person that I used to be. The day became a turning point in my life, and there is no turning back when one awakens every morning and "knows" that something very deep and meaningful has been gifted to them.
I value my Astrological learnings, as I value each new day...full of new possibilities, evolving, and integrative in nature. Most of all, I value how a deeper knowledge of oneself can add humility and peace to one's life, which can change perspective so that what is seen on the outside is understood as coming from their own true nature. Those we love are appreciated at a different level, for they are respected for their uniqueness...it is the differences that are our best teachers. Astrology has taught me that the very differences that make us all unique as human beings are what needs to be understood. It is the energetic patterns that we manifest, which come together as a unique symphony, vibrating to the rhythms of all the players. The gift that astrology brings us, is that it supports our understanding of the parts as well as the patterns of the whole.
I have written below about my personal Sun sign, that of Taurus in order to help you understand its essence.
The Experience of Being a Taurean - July 7, 2013
Life for me is at its most peaceful and profound, when I rest on the grass in a lovely meadow. I look up at the sky, and easily become One with the clouds and the breeze that is moving the formations hither and about. The fragrances that abound are wafting about on the layers of breeze - I pick up the scents of flowers, bark, and greens around me, all inhaled and cherished. The grasses' coldness is perfect, even the prickly edges that are growing as they will. All is perfect here...the trees are making melodies with their leaves. The Willow's sound is more high pitched than the heavier Maples, and the Ginkgo's have a rhythm all their own...not surprising since they are the oldest of all, and have a lot of practice. I become this place in time, I am all that surrounds me, and I feel in the deepest part of my bones and being - a peace that is indescribable...I am home.
