With a collection of thirty poems, this compilation focuses on the morals and character attributes necessary to be successful by maintaining moral rightness. Covering broad subjects like endurance and fondness as well as more modern concerns as corporal punishment and AIDS, readers are tasked with considering the pitfalls and temptations that prevent people from being their best. Each poem ends with notes from the author that discuss the topic in a non-lyrical format as well as discussion questions and review exercises designed to put the concepts in a more practical light. After discussing these tenets of morality with his audience, the poet strives to bring these qualities off the page and into the hearts of his readers by moving them with the artistry of his words.
As far as poetry collections are concerned, this title is rather unique in that it focuses more on current issues with society as opposed to more timeless, romantic ideas. The addition of notes from the author and questions that are both introspective and designed to encourage review of the poetry makes the concepts come to life in a more meaningful, active way. The author's views about certain societal issues may differ from the readers, but a big portion of that may come from his roots in Nigeria, and so as with so many books, it is imperative to approach the subject with an open mind and consideration.
