Wouldn't it be nice...no, a miracle, if we could just have two people running for office, and they acted like real gentlemen, or gentlewomen, without throwing mud in each other's eye?
Everyone has a opinion of the conventions going on right now and what is and isn't being said.
But what makes us really vote for a man for president.
We are all just ordinary people. Sure, we listen to the news, hear some of the speeches, and digest it all with a grain of salt. I mean, we have to...you can't believe everything you hear, now can you?
How in the world are we supposed to know which person is telling the truth 99% of the time? Okay, 75% of the time. 50%?
Every time there is an election, there is a mud wrestle between candidates.
Why can't men simply tell the truth and say what they mean? Why do they have to spend so much of their time saying negative things about one another.
Perhaps because we happen to catch most of those negative things and store them in our brains for later.
But shouldn't picking a president be based on facts, figures and good ole honesty?
I know who I'll vote for, but I'm still shaking my head wondering why they go to so much trouble and so much expense to run an election. Millions of dollars are spent on elections, and think of how many homeless people that would feed?
All those parties, fund raisers, and speeches don't cut it for me. I'm tired of the same ole same ole.
When Jimmy Carter got out and walked his way to his presidency, I thought to myself, "Gee, here's an ordinary man who became president."
I hate to say it, but when it comes down to it, I vote for the man himself, not the party, not the shenanigans, and both parties use them. That's why it's so hard to decide just which one of them you want to vote for.
We are so sophisticated and everything we do takes millions of dollars these days.
All the questions asked during election time get skimmed over mostly by politicians who refuse to just say something and mean it.
Here are some of the questions I'd love to hear an honest answer to.
When will gas prices go down and stay there?
When will the unemployment lines shrink?
Would you stop the war if you really could?
Whatever happened to retiring and will social security ever stablize?
Speaking of prices, when will food go down so we can afford to buy it?
How far will you let the journalist go on TV before you say "enough".
Teaching our children isn't always easy when our candidates don't set examples with their mud-slinging.
Why can't they simply stand up and talk to us, not make speeches and promises they can't keep?
Things I don't want to hear...
Who the president slept with...duh!
How much money he spent on his campaign.
How he'd handle the war differently if he were the president. Wars are dictated by more than just one man.
You can blame the presidents all you like, but they certainly are not the only one involved in decisions.
His war record...unless he was dishonorably discharged and committed treason. The fact that he served is saying something for the man...but unless he was a public hero, that should not be a part of his campaign.
How many times he has been married, or any other personal scandals.
I like both parites to an extent. Both have good qualities and bad. Both have had good and unseemly presidents.
But when it gets right down to it, it's the man that makes the president.
And I'm voting for the man....
