Today many volunteers conducted a Day of Service and Remembrance at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. They even scrubbed it. Jan Scruggs remarked how sparkly it is.

As I watched the news report, I was reminded why I wrote "When Duty Calls." My mother saved their letters for others to be able to deal with the trauma with words from a chaplain who was there.

A reader made the comment that he was disappointed in my book because he thought he would hear from a soldier who fought. I can assure you that he did. He is a soldier same as anyone else. He stands by the soldiers, and was under fire same as everyone else. Soldiers of all ranks bring their problems to him. He suffered from PTSD same as everyone else. My grandfather, a chaplain who fought during WWII and the Korean War, actually captured a Korean escapee and brought him back to camp.

Back to the wall. If you cannot make it to DC, please think about trying to see the traveling wall. I did years ago when I was living in Kansas. Both of my parents had an emotional reaction when it was in town. The schedule for the traveling wall can be found at http://www.travelingwall.us.
