Do you have someone in your life that is estranged from you and your family? Do you long to see them or hear from them? I feel your pain. Our family has gone through this now for almost 12 years. To say it hurts is an understatement. You miss them so much that it’s as if they’re dead to you. And, I feel as though my heart went with her when she left home.
To quote Laura Story in her famous song, “ Blessings”, What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know your( God) near? “ How many days is it going to take, how many prayers ( unanswered), and, how much faith does it take to move my particular mountain? A Mt Everest Mtn.
There are many, many support groups for us parents of prodigals. First, there’s Moms in Prayer International, When You love a Prodigal, and Hope for Hurting Parents. All of these organizations offer either blog posts or podcasts and additional resources in the form of books on the topic of reaching and living with the hurt of a rebellious child. One book in particular is titled “You Are Not Alone “,by Dena Yohe. Dena and her husband have gone through years of struggle with a daughter caught up in addictions, self- harm and depression just to name a few. I highly recommend this book as well as the blog posts on their website.
If you know someone struggling with same-sex attraction there is hope as well.
A man named Christopher Yuan has written a book with his mother titled Out of a Far Country. He has successfully left the homosexual lifestyle by being transformed by Christ into a life of purity now. He currently has developed a video series for teens struggling with sexual identity and gender confusion. The series is called The Holy Sexuality Project.
I realize that this is a sensitive subject but one neeeded to be addressed. Our culture is so promiscuous no. Anything goes and do what feels good. Well, feelings don’t care about facts. And the fact is, it’s time for the prodigals to come home. They’ve been away long enough.The account of the prodigal son in the book of Luke in the Holy Bible shows us what to do. The father waited for the son to return. When the son realized he was getting nowhere in life and lost all he had through a wasteful lifestyle, he recognized he had was lost and without any hope of things getting any better. He had to return home and ask his father’s forgiveness. The father, seeing him a far off ran,and embraced his son and rewarded him with a welcome home party.
Are you ready for that day of reconciliation? I am. I hope it’s today or tomorrow.
I want my daughter back. I can’t wait for the day. There’s so much catching up to do.May our love be what brings her back to us . May you receive your loved one back home soon. Keep watching and praying and waiting! I’m pulling for you!
