Looking back five years ago I recall the fuss and ado that was promulgated by the ending of the year 1999 and the onset of the year 2000...the new Millenium. Fear mongers, soothsayers, religious zealots, soap box orators, scientists and even governments spread the fear of God that it would be the end of the world as we know it. Stock martkets and banks would crash, computer nerworks world wide would fail, new doseases would blossom over night, an ice age would start, the Lord would have a second coming and so many other shocking and startling predictions were made. The media had a field day and were never at a loss for fillers, even Nostradamous was taken down off the shelf brushed off and used for quotes to ensure the people listened.

Now it is 5 years later and about 99% of the doomsday predictions have failed to materialize. The year 2005 is here and it is still the same world filled with wars, genocide, natural disastors and hatred tempered by the other side of the coin with the people who love, care and actually reach out to get their hands dirty to make the world a  better place. This diasastor in Asia should be a starting point for the world to spread hope instead of fear, food instead of arms, love instead of hatred. If we expend even half of the resources and opinions that were expended on the New Millenium threat then the world may see a real turning point in the history of mankind before the next five years go by.
