Teaching old dogs new ways of marketing. I tried something new this month, stretching myself beyond the borders of ignorance. I hosted another writer on this site. The process is called “virtual book tours,” organized by Nikki Leigh.
Brutal beginnings. I had to link correctly to relevant “url”s, check website etiquette, interview the author via the coordinator, and choose the right dates to display the interview. Since I am a digital immigrant, and have not had a proper course since I left employment when e-mail was being introduced, you can understand my phobia in dealing with digital processes.
I feel like “In the beginning Bill Gates' group created the internet,” and we are at the start of a new civilization: texting, indexing, SEO’ing,Skyping, FTP’s PDF’s, URL’s, and a host of new words crawling into the English language. Am I suffering from Alzheimer’s or are we witnessing the creation of a new language in the 21st century, good old graceful expressions yielding to symbols, sounds, emoticons and such, with some self-appointed digital-native arbitrarily deciding on meanings. I can’t even consult dictionaries, unless I resort to Geekipedia, which, you noticed, hints to a language created by geeks.
Anyway, going through the process I activated another dormant cell in my brains and a few esoteric thoughts to boot. Let’s face it I do enjoy interviewing and writing. This was the perfect opportunity to combine both interests by hosting Shobhan Bantwal, a fellow writer from India, author of “The Forbidden Bride.” Doing so, I must have increased my karma. A week after the hosting, an opportunity to visit India crossed my threshold. I grabbed it. I am looking forward to great adventures. See you soon.
