Changes that occur in the world of bird watching.
Having been a bird watched for over 30 years now, I find myself a little bored with some of the books and magazines that used to interest me. These books were written to introduce a person to the basics of bird watching, the excitement of the pursuit and the precise details about the birds. This boredom has occurred precisely because I already know so much about the subject of birds.
Just recently, however, I've begun to notice that many of the people that I introduced to bird watching are now correcting me. How dare they? Yet, I did it myself to a few older birding friends when I was an intermediary. So I guess I'll just have to figure out a way to laugh off a "senior moment" where I forgot the difference between a Hooded Merganser and a Red-breasted Merganser female.
Anyone can make a mistake and it's a shame that birding can become so competitive. Why so competitive? The only reward is in seeing your favorite birds and knowing that they are still with us on this constantly changing planet. In the mean time, I may need to dust off some books and renew my expertise.
