Successful Poetry

why the distractions?
Why the music?
Why the distractive milieu
Of ideas and emotions
Of a beating heart?
Why the enhancement
Of passion and perspective
Set forth by an inquiring mind
And an open soul
Why the embellishment of imagery and metaphor?
Becoming adorned by extraneous representations
Of stimuli
To accompany its primary quality
By trying to suggest an ambiance
That should be already there
Just to loose the muse’s natural flow
Poetry is to be spoken in the mind
In solitude without no distractions
Not to be enhanced
By other visual and audio ornamentation
So the reader can feel the voice
Of the poet’s spirit
Not that I am innocent of it
But what’s with the pictures?
Do we really need them?
Do they really intensify the effect of the affect?
Though visually stimulating
Shouldn’t our mind’s eye
See the image
Of truly successful poetry?
