Short article about caregiver abuse! When I took on the project of writing and educating the public about caregiver abuse, I had no idea how much of a national epidemic it had become. Recently, Fox news aired a story and video of a private caregiver abusing a ninety year old man. The abuser was a foreign national hired by the mans daughter to care for her father in their home. After installing hidden camera's in her fathers room, the daughter was shocked to find that her dad was being beaten and slapped so violently that his body bounced up and down on his mattress from the repeated blows to his face,chest,head and crotch! It was horrible to watch the abuse this poor man suffered at the hands of his caregiver. His offense,(as if there was one that could justify the beating of a ninety year old man);he had soiled himself and suffered a stroke.
If I Had Only Known; breaking The Silence Of Caregiver Abuse, by Brooke Jennings, is a non-fiction book and details the abuse of seniors and the disabled at the hands of their caregivers.It attempts to explain how this has become such a national epidemic. It is so important to help get the message out and to help others realize how approximately every 2.6 seconds,an elderly person is being abused, beaten or neglected by medical staff,family members and other outside organizations.They are also waiting to be rescued by someone who is diligent enough to recognize the warning signs. If anyone knows about any medical abuse in group homes, nursing homes or private caregivers, please contact the necessary authorities and report it!. My goal is to help increase public awareness by helping to protect anyone from medical abuse or neglect.
