I have to confess my preference of when I write depends on many factors. I would love to write only in the morning but I sleep late sometimes. I would also like to write only in the evening but sometimes I get drowsy. That leaves the day in between. My schedule is not really a schedule. Simply put, I write when I'm ready. Sounds stupid but in reality I write when inspiration grabs me. Allow me to put things in perspective. In the morning while still in bed,I sometimes mull over a story I'm writing. An idea on how to add or change something appears and I'm off to the computer in pajamas. The rest of the day includes tending to emails, typing blogs and visiting three web sites where I regularly contribute articles. After a late lunch I spend about three or four hours working on a manuscript. After this, things get weird at least they seem that way to me. I could be working on a story and after coming back from the supermarket or wherever, I bring home a new idea and immediately click Word and I'm off in a different direction. This happens often, even after watching a PBS broadcast. In the evening I often do revisions until ten o'clock, later if on a roll. Sometimes, between deep slumber and fully awake I get ideas. The last time I counted, I found twenty short stories half done or finished waiting for rewrites. I'm baring my writing soul in this blog for a purpose. Am I the exception to the rule or are there other helter-skelter writers out there? I'm not complaining, I wish I could change but after six years I don't think I could. This is how I managed to hack out an over two hundred thousand word manuscript which I'm turning into three separate stories as per a publisher's suggestion. As I write this I get the feeling there are probably more bizarre ways of writing than mine. I would love to hear them, then maybe I wouldn't feel so strange.
