A few writers on the SCBWI Midsouth Listserv gave me come confidence about signing the contract for my novel. They all had experience with eBook and Print on Demand publishers, and they agreed with me that this is being "Officially published" not something that is really just a vanity or self-publishing deal. I asked more questions of the editor, and I found her answers to be very positive and helpful. I think this is going to be a good deal, and I am excited about it. I think the hardest thing will be getting people past the notion that because the book isn't available in hardcover and isn't going to be on shelves at bookstores, that it isn't a self published book. So many friends are already implying that. I'm not spending any money on the publication of this book. They are editing it, doing publicity and providing the cover art. It is like any other book contract, just on a smaller scale. The book cover of the other books they've published are gorgeous, so I'm very thrilled about that. Let's see what happens...
