New publication and distributors ...was when Nickolaus Pacione contacted me and told me he wanted to buy publication rights to my short story "In Death's Face" to use in his upcoming horror anthology. Pretty sweet considering he'd only read the first half that was posted on Author's Den. I was thrilled and we struck up a deal. So now I have a little extra cash and another publishing credit under my belt. That's nice considering 2003 was kind of dry for me, as was 2004 outside of SACRIFICE.
Nate (my husband)and I had a bit of a tiff today b/c I didn't make it to the PO in time to male off my mother-in-law's copies of SACRIFICE. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. I had other transactions to deal with today, including trying to handle getting my book into these distributor's databases. For any of you who haven't been published yet, if you don't get picked up by a major house, you will soon learn what a pain in the rear this is. I really hate it. In a nutshell, individual bookstores tend to go through particular, individual distributors to order books, and if your book isn't listed with their distributor, they don't know you, they don't want to host a signing for you, they don't want jack sh*t to do with you. And to get listed with distibutors is often an expensive pain in the rear. I hate it, I really, really, really hate it. Honestly, I should have just mailed the books, b/c I didn't get anything accomplished with any of the distributors.
I'm glad it's the weekend. We're going to see THE VILLAGE tomorrow night with a friend. I've read mixed reviews on it, so this should be interesting.
