As an author, I feel great when anybody buys one of my books. Then I start worrying. Will they like it? Will they believe I ripped them off? I wait, wondering whether I will receive feedback anywhere. Then a message pops in, or somebody leaves feedback on a website. Deep breath. Then I read their glowing words of praise for my writing, my plotting, my pacing and my characters.
If everybody who reads my books believes they are so great, then why do the big publishers and agents still send their bog-standard rejections? It's a tough world, thousands of mss per week, mainly crap, only so many can be taken for their lists, best of luck elsewhere.
But where else? So many say the same. And so many publishers go under these days. Perhaps POD is the future, along with e-books, but only the publishers have the pull to get displays into every high street store.
A mess.
Keep trying.
Some day, somebody will see the light.
