Some great advice I got at a conference. My husband and I went to a writer's conference this fall. I attended a roundtable discussion where I received some really good advice. First: not all advice is good advice. Second: You don't need to restrict yourself to one genre, it can be bad for the blocks. Finally: We were advised to look everywhere. Go to art shows, look at everything around you, whatever you do and wherever you go you can take something a work it into a story or poem.
Ithought about that last bit and remembered a pediatrician who wrote a poem about a red wheel barrow, chickens and other items that didn't imply any movement of the subjects. I realized he created a puzzle about a picture for the kids in his office. And when I get to my book and find it I'll tell you the poem and the poets name.
