- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I am semi-retired taxicab driver and a "new" author who is unknown. Word of mouth (electronic or otherwise) is one of the very few ways I can let folks find out about an important new work. I have chosen to preview "Rundog" among those folks most able to appreciate the concepts and to bring them to fruition.
Hopefully I have woven these ideas into a readable story with engaging characters.
Some of the topics mentioned in Rundog are controversial, and most of will not take place for many decades or even centuries. Other topics are with us today, out on the fringe, begging for their day in the sun. I use alternate history to plant sensible ideas toward a sustainable future. In other words, "Rundog" is a clever thought experiment. Among the scientific concepts explored are agriculture, solar sailing, hexagonal urban-grid design allowing for 3-way (flow thru, nonstop) intersections and electromagnetic velocity changes in orbit.
"Rundog" is controversial in that it envisions a society based on merit rather than possessions. A person's worth is valued for his or her communal contributions. The roles of politicians, lawyers, bankers, advertisers and
financial brokers would be dramatically reduced. The need for refrigeration would be greatly reduced. The roles of scientists and engineers would be expanded, altho indirectly, for the top guns would be tweaking a computer
modeling program that authorizes new products based social benefits, human health and ecological viability. I can attest to the need for this method, since I have worked as a taxi driver with human dispatchers as well as computer
dispatch systems. Whereas drivers did and do complain of favoritism if they receive business from human dispatchers, such complaints cannot be made when dispatched thru the agencies of computer systems. The only problem remaining is to improve the computer system so that it reflects more accurately the realities of the real world.
Indeed, a fair and just society would be best guided by a computer model that accurately reflects the needs of its citizens as well as the biosphere on which they can thrive. For example, new products are assessed ahead of time for possible health risks or environmental damages. If and when they are proven to be safe, the added fees can be refunded. No politician or vested interest can
argue with that!
