Why attend writing groups?
People attend writing groups for various reasons: the social aspect, for a brief critique of their work, to talk the writer's life. Last night, I drove to Pine Island and met with a small group of writers of various ages, writing styles, and types of writing. One guy, a doctor, was there because he was thinking about writing again. Thinking about, it, hmm...Another young woman also has a manuscript in New York. Others were writing for family. Such variety. Such uniqueness. Perfect.

Yes, I have a manuscript in New York again. It's not the first time, but this time my fav agent asked for revisions. A step closer. Oh, gosh! Am I thrilled and nervous? You bet. I just sent in the requested revisions. Now the ball's in their court again. And that's okay. I'm working diligently on a new book, not a sequel really, I think of it more as a continuation of my character's story. I hadn't planned to write it. I thought I was through with this character. A week after sending the manuscript to New York, I was awakened by a line. Got up. Wrote it down. Voila`, she's talking again. What can you do?

Every day I write. No one tells me to do it. I am compelled. I must finish her story.

On Thanksgiving Day? I'm not that crazed. I went sailing, laughed with friends.

So, I'm driving down this dimly lit road, hoping for what? Inspiration? No. I'm inspired. Support? Hmm...When I arrive, no one's about. I turn around, go back to Dairy Queen and buy a hot dog, no drink. Head south again. Cars. Okay, I'm here.

Turns out, my instinct to go was right on. Sometimes just being around other writer's is enough. People taking themselves seriously about putting words on the page. People who talk sentences, words, need for specifics, metaphors, painting pictures, query letters, concepts...

A shot in the arm...
